As demand for green drive solutions grows, attention is increasingly turning to hydrogen as an alternative fuel. As a result, the hydrogen engine has an important role to play in decarbonizing the off-highway segment.

A hydrogen engine’s efficiency depends largely on its design, much as it does in a conventional internal combustion engine. During the development of our DEUTZ TCG 7.8 H2 hydrogen engine, we specifically analyzed the injection system components to ensure that they meet the requirements of the engine and of its use in off-highway applications.
The outcome is a sophisticated technological solution that enables drives operation in commercial vehicles. With hydrogen engines, however, there is a possibility that NOx emissions could occur in isolated operating states. In this case, most NOx emissions are eliminated through the use of an aftertreatment system.
